Please send ideas for our meeting the week after that! Maybe something in Lynnwood...

Showtime for Thursday

Okay, we've settled on a showtime for Thursday. We'll take advantage of matinee prices and go to the 3:00 show at the Regal Cinemas Everett Mall Stadium 16. Here's the Fandango link for the show.

This is a new release and school is out, so I recommend purchasing your tickets in advance.

We'll carry a STUN sign so we'll be easily recognizable to those who haven't joined us before, and we'll save some extra seats for as long as we feel comfortable doing so. (That probably won't be long, so be early!)

"Live Free or Die Hard" opens Wednesday instead of Friday, so now we don't know what time we're going. It'll still be Thursday, though. Check back for more info in a few days!

Meet and greet!

Our first STUN meeting was a rousing success, with a small but lively group of teens, plus a small but lively group of parents. Our two-hour meeting ended up lasting four hours! Very cool.

A big shout out to Sarah, Joe, Hunter, Logan, MJ, and Chloe for getting things started!

We're gathering some details about next week's meeting and will post them later today. The quick scoop is that it will be Tuesday afternoon out at Lake Roesiger. Cross your fingers for sunshine!

And here's a heads-up for you north-county folks: Our third meeting will probably be in Arlington. Let us know if there's some perfect spot up there!

Sunday, June 10, 2007

Meeting notice: 6/13/07

Our first meeting will be:

Wednesday, June 13, 2007

Cheese pizza can be purchased by the slice from STUN, or you can order your own pie. Please buy your own drinks.

This is a teen event, of course, but parents and younger siblings are welcome, too.

STUNning principles

The main purpose of STUN is to provide unschooled and homeschooled teens with a place to meet and hang out with each other. Our main goal is having fun. We also provide each other with contacts, ideas, resources, and support for pursuing our own individual goals.

STUN is a secular, all-inclusive group. Our members are eclectic and spring from a variety of backgrounds (educational and otherwise), but we're all free beings. Most of us are radical unschoolers, which means we don't go to school or do lessons or take classes (unless we want to) and our families don't impose a bunch of arbitrary rules on us.

We tend to hold strong opinions and be outspoken about them. STUN encourages open discussion about issues both silly and serious, with no restrictions on content or language. If somebody says something somebody else finds offensive, that can be discussed, too!

There are no membership fees, but we might have the occasional fund drive.

To give lots of people a chance to join us, our meeting times and locations vary. Check this blog for details, and feel free to suggest locations!

Announcing STUN!

We are pleased to announce the formation of STUN: SnoCo Teen Unschoolers Network. STUN is a group of teen unschoolers (and sometimes their parents and younger siblings) in Snohomish County and beyond. We meet as often as we can to hang out, network, and have a blast.

This blog is where you'll find STUN news, including meeting and event notices, member announcements, and just maybe the occasional article about what it's like being a teen unschooler.
